What is The Space Between?

The Space Between is an immersive festival experience combining walking, live music, art, nature and audiovisual performance in the Peak District.
The day begins at Kenslow Farm before travelling to the start of a walk. Along the route, you’ll encounter three live performances and creative activities before returning to Kenslow Farm for an evening of food, art, audiovisual performance, live music and DJs.

Where is The Space Between?

The festival takes place at Kenslow Farm in the Peak District.
The walking journey begins at a separate location and finishes in Youlgreave. Festival transport takes you from Kenslow Farm to the start of your walk and back again at the end.

How long is the walk?

The walking time takes approximately 2–3 hours - with activities and performances it will be 4-5 hours.
You’ll stop at three performance locations along the route.

Is the walk suitable for everyone?

The Space Between involves a 2–3 hour walk through the Peak District, so you should be comfortable walking outdoors for this length of time.
The route is point-to-point rather than a loop.
More detailed information about terrain, elevation, accessibility and what to wear should be provided before the event.
 

 

 

Do I need to be a regular walker?

No.
You don’t need to be an experienced hiker or particularly knowledgeable about nature, music or art. The experience is designed around curiosity and noticing what’s around you rather than speed or fitness.

Do I have to take part in the creative activities?

No. They’re invitations rather than requirements.
You can participate as much or as little as you like.
You might record sounds, take photographs, make videos or simply walk and listen.

 

 

 
What should I bring?

 

We recommend bringing:

Comfortable walking shoes or boots / Weather-appropriate clothing / Water / A fully charged phone / Portable power bank if you have one / Your ticket / Anything you normally need for a few hours outdoors / Tent.

The weather in the Peak District can change quickly, so come prepared.

Why do I need my phone?

Your phone can become part of the experience.
You’ll be invited to record photographs and short videos during the walk. You can then choose your favourite material to contribute to the evening’s audiovisual experience.
You don’t have to contribute anything if you don’t want to.

 

 

 

 
What happens to the things I record?

You’ll be given the opportunity to submit selected photographs, videos and field recordings when you return to Kenslow Farm. Selected material may be processed and incorporated into the evening’s Geodome audiovisual performance.
The intention is to transform the material rather than simply play it back.
 

 

 

Will my footage definitely be shown?

No, the creative and technical team will curate submissions and select material for inclusion in the evening performance.
The experience is about contributing to a shared artwork rather than guaranteeing that a particular piece of footage will appear.

What time should I arrive?

Please arrive 45–60 minutes before your booked walking departure time.
This gives you time to park, check in, collect your festival pack and attend the short orientation before boarding the shuttle.
 

 

 

 

What are the walking departure times?

There are four departure slots:
12:00 · 13:00 · 14:00
Your departure time is fixed according to the ticket you book.

 

 

 

How do I get to the start of the walk?

You don’t need to make your own way to the starting point.
You’ll meet at Kenslow Farm, where you’ll check in and board one of the festival minibuses.
The shuttle takes you to the start of the walking route.
 

 

 

 

Where does the walk finish?

The walk finishes in Youlgreave.
From there, the festival minibuses will bring you back to Kenslow Farm.
 

 

 

 

Do I need to arrange my own transport back?

No.
Return transport from Youlgreave to Kenslow Farm is included as part of the walking experience.

 

 

 

 
What happens when I get back to Kenslow Farm?

You’ll have time to eat, drink, relax and explore the festival site.
You’ll also have the opportunity to submit your favourite recordings, photographs and videos at the Media Collection Point.
As evening approaches, the audiovisual experience begins in the Geodome, followed by live music and DJs.
 

 

 

 

Can I come just for the evening?

Yes, evening-only arrivals are planned from approximately 5pm.
Evening only tickets and full details of the evening programme are shared online via our socials.

 

 

 

What happens if it rains?

The festival takes place outdoors and will go ahead subject to appropriate safety considerations. The performance locations have individual weather contingencies and the event team will communicate any significant changes.
Come prepared for British weather.
 

 

 

Is there food and drink?
Yes.
Food and drink will be available at Kenslow Farm, including option of preordering a lunch pack up and catering at the evening party by Watt’s Cookin’. Vegan and gluten free options are available.

 

 

 
Can I leave my car at Kenslow Farm while I walk?

Yes, the festival is designed around arriving at Kenslow Farm, parking there and using the festival shuttle to reach the walk start.
Detailed parking information will be provided before the event.
 

 

 

 

Can I film and photograph the festival?

You’re encouraged to capture your own experience using your phone or camera.
There will also be professional photography at the event, with the festival deliberately taking a more natural approach.

What should I expect from the evening?

The evening is a continuation of the journey rather than a separate event.
Expect food, drink, installations, audiovisual work, live performances and DJs.
The Geodome showcase will bring together material gathered during the day’s walks before the evening programme continues into the night.

Can I come alone?

Yes. The staggered groups and guided experience mean you don’t need to arrive as part of a large group. The walk itself gives you plenty of opportunities to meet people, while the evening brings everyone together at Kenslow Farm.

 

 

 

 
What happens if I’m late for my departure?

Please arrive in good time.
The shuttle schedule is tightly coordinated with the walking groups and the other departure times, so late arrivals may not be able to join their booked departure.

Where can I find the walking route?

The route is a point-to-point journey from Marshalls on Lees Road to Youlgreave.

What should I do if I have accessibility requirements?

Please contact the festival team before booking so we can discuss your requirements and what parts of the experience can be accommodated.
The walking route involves outdoor terrain and a 2–3 hour journey, so we’ll always aim to give you clear information about what to expect.
 

 

 

 

Is this a family event?
The festival is centred around a 2–3 hour outdoor walking experience and an evening programme. The festival is 16 + but under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult.
 

 

 

 

What happens if I decide I don’t want to participate in the walk?

Evening only tickets are available for those not wanting to participate in the walk. Evening ticket holders are asked to arrive at 4pm to the festival site on Kenslow Farm.
